Week 1: introduction, review, cadence types
Read: Kostka Chp. 10, pgs. 145-149 (cadences)
Kostka Chp. 6, pgs. 81-90 (root-position part writing)
Homework: complete the photocopied handouts (from MU120 Fall quarter packet) titled Part-writing and Analyzing Cadences and Cadence part-writing, 2. Due Wednesday of Week 2.

Week 2: cadence types, classical guitar composition, 7th chord resolutions
Read: Kostka pgs. 120-131 (writing for 1st inversion triads)
Kostka pgs. chp. 13, pgs. 198-216 ( The V7 chord)
Homework: Compose an 8-measure piece for solo guitar with melody, bass line, and inner voice. Two phrases punctuated by two cadences, the second cadence being stronger than the first. Any "sharp" key. Provide a full harmonic analysis (pop chord symbols and key and Roman numeral analysis) and circle and label all non-harmonic tones (passing tones, neighbor tones, anticipations). Additionally, complete the "Dominant 7th Resolutions" 1-page photocopy form the class packet. DUE WEDNESDAY WEEK 3.
