Week 4: Common chord modulations. Standard blues form.

Musicianship quiz: sing all the modes of the major scale with correct sollfege. Quiz Friday of week 4.


Week 5: More modulatory techniques: altered chord modulations, direct modulations, common-tone modulations

Kostka: read chapter 19

In-class analysis: Bach Sarabande form the Violin Partita in b minor

Homework: Analysis of "Dido's Lament". Due Friday of week 5.

Week 6: Review for Midterm

Midterm Friday of Week 6

Musicianship: prepared singing test. Modal melodies handout. Monday week 7.

Week 7: Jazz harmonies, ii7 V7 Imaj7 progressions, 9th, 11th, 13th chords, altered chords (b5, #9, etc..)

In class analysis: "How High the Moon", "Black Orpheus"

Homework: Mozart string quintet analysis. Due Monday of week 8.
